Implant Treatment
What Is a Dental Implant?
A dental implant is an artificial root placed into the jawbone that takes over the function of a lost tooth.
These roots, made from biocompatible materials such as titanium or zirconium, offer a natural-looking, strong, and long-lasting solution when combined with a prosthetic tooth placed on top.
Today, implants are one of the most effective options for patients who want fixed teeth, providing both aesthetic and functional results.
How Is the Treatment Applied?
The first step involves a detailed clinical examination and 3D imaging to analyze the jawbone structure.
An implant is placed in the suitable area under local anesthesia.
After the healing period, a permanent dental prosthesis is fixed onto the implant.
If everything goes smoothly, the procedure can be completed in a single session. In some cases, a two-stage planning approach may be necessary.
Who Can Undergo Implant Treatment?
- Individuals over the age of 18
- Those who have completed bone development
- Individuals with a suitable general health condition are eligible for implant treatment.
In patients with systemic diseases, consultation with relevant specialists may be required.
What Factors Affect Treatment Duration?
The treatment process varies from person to person.
Factors such as the number of implants, bone density, and whether additional procedures are needed determine the duration.
Placing a single implant typically takes 10–15 minutes, while the entire process may be completed within 2 to 5 months.
Is Same-Day Tooth Replacement Possible?
In patients with suitable bone structure, a temporary tooth can be placed on the same day the implant is inserted.
This method is called “immediate loading” and is not suitable for every case.
A detailed examination determines eligibility.
Advanced Techniques: All-on-4, Flapless, and Zygomatic Implants
All-on-4:
In this technique developed for edentulous patients, four implants are placed per jaw, and a temporary prosthesis is attached on the same day.
Flapless Implant:
After planning with special software, the implant is placed without cutting tissue or suturing. It offers more comfort and a shorter healing time.
Zygomatic Implant:
A special technique applied to the cheekbone for patients with severe bone loss in the upper jaw where conventional implants cannot be placed.
What Happens in Cases of Insufficient Bone?
If there is insufficient bone in the implant area, “bone grafting” or the use of bone substitute materials can be applied.
After such procedures, a healing period of 3–6 months is expected.
What Are the Advantages of Implants?
- Opportunity for fixed prosthetics
- Results closest to natural appearance
- Comfortable chewing function
- No damage to neighboring teeth
- Long-lasting use
How Long Do Implants Last?
With proper care, implants can last a lifetime.
Daily dental hygiene, regular check-ups, and avoiding smoking are key factors in implant longevity.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is implant treatment painful?
No, the procedure is performed under local anesthesia. Mild sensitivity may occur afterward, but it usually subsides quickly.
When can normal daily activities be resumed after an implant?
Most patients can return to their routine the next day. If extensive work is done, 1–2 days of rest may be recommended.
Is there a risk of implant failure?
The risk is very low (98% success rate).
Good planning, hygiene, and following the dentist’s recommendations ensure a successful outcome.
