Orthodontics

What Is Orthodontics?

Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry that diagnoses and treats misalignments of the teeth and jaw discrepancies.
Proper alignment of the teeth is important not only for aesthetics but also for chewing function and overall oral health.

Orthodontic treatment is not only for children and adolescents; it can also be applied to adults.

What Types of Problems Does It Treat?

  • Crowding of the teeth
  • Spacing between front or back teeth
  • Open bite (teeth not closing properly)
  • Positional discrepancies between the upper and lower jaws
  • Jaw narrowness, shifting, or protrusion
  • Problems related to phonetic (speech) disorders

Such disorders not only affect aesthetic appearance but also complicate oral hygiene, leading to gum problems and cavities.

What Methods Are Used?

Metal Brackets

A classic and effective orthodontic treatment method. Today, they are produced in smaller and more comfortable forms.

Porcelain (Clear) Brackets

Less noticeable due to their tooth-colored appearance. Preferred by adolescents and adults who value aesthetics.

Clear Aligners (Invisalign, etc.)

Offers treatment without the use of metal braces, using transparent trays. Provides a comfortable solution especially for adults with busy social lives.

Orthodontic Appliances

Removable or fixed devices used to guide jaw development, especially in growing children.

How Long Does Treatment Take?

Orthodontic treatments typically last between 6 and 24 months.
The duration varies depending on the severity of the misalignment, the patient’s age, and the chosen method.

Clear aligner treatments are completed within similar time frames, but consistent and disciplined use of the aligners is crucial.

Is Orthodontics Only for Aesthetic Purposes?

No. Improperly aligned teeth:

  • Are harder to clean, increasing the risk of cavities and gum disease
  • Can cause chewing difficulties
  • May lead to jaw joint pain and noises
  • Can cause speech disorders

Therefore, orthodontic treatment is not only aesthetic but can also be a functional necessity.

Our Orthodontic Approach at CeDent

Instead of applying the same method to every patient, we conduct individual evaluations.
During the initial consultation, we create a personalized treatment plan using digital measurements, intraoral imaging, and jaw analysis.
You can choose to proceed with invisible options (clear aligners) or traditional methods (brackets).

We facilitate the process with regular check-ups and provide detailed information whenever necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions

At what age should orthodontic treatment begin?

An initial evaluation is recommended around ages 7–8, when most primary teeth have been replaced.
However, orthodontic treatment can also be safely applied in adults.

Do braces cause pain?

Mild sensitivity may occur when braces are first placed or adjusted.
This discomfort usually decreases within a few days.

Can teeth be whitened during treatment?

Teeth whitening is not recommended during bracket treatment. However, it can be done after treatment is completed.
